Work Ahead aims to improve the employment opportunities of people with mental health difficulties by providing resources which will create a greater awareness and breakdown stigma and barriers. Employment opportunities of people with mental health difficulties can be improved by providing an information resource to employers job coaches, job seekers, employees and families.
Mental distress affects one in four of us, yet remains a hidden issue, and unless it is explicitly addressed it will stay hidden. The risk for an individual in talking about their own mental health difficulties is often to put their job and their reputation on the line.
If employers can be open and accepting about mental illness, it will give them credibility with those who have experienced mental distress, and provide a basis for dialogue to find mutually beneficial solutions.
